Love it or hate it, Strava is now ubiquitous. And it just underwent a major upgrade.
The fitness tracking app, which lets you track rides and share your results with friends, released its free version 4.0 last week. The updated app comes with an array of significant changes aimed at improving the brand's clout as a social network.
The new version combines Strava's previously seperate cycling and running apps—helpful for those who cross-train. But you can still toggle easily between the two sport-specific formats. The app's redesigned activity feed has been updated to include Instagram integration, one-tap commenting, and the ability to track equipment used.
The new Strava also groups activities for friends who work out together, provides interactive mapping of workouts, and allows for easy one-button social sharing to Facebook, Path, and Twitter.
But plenty of the old Strava is still highlighted. Users can still plot routes, see their elevation gain, earn badges for securing personal bests, and discover new rides or runs based on what their friends do. The app also comes with a premium upgrade for $59 per year that offers users detailed analytics including speed and heart rate data.
