Outside magazine announced today the Winter 2011 winners of the Gear of the Year awards, featured in the Outside Winter Buyer’s Guide, on newsstands October 11th and online on November 1st.
Outside is excited to unveil its favorite 275 favorite new winter products. Once again, the magazine’s team of reviewers and editors spent most of last winter field testing the latest alpine skis, snowboards, jackets, snowshoes, backcountry skis, running shoes and just about every accessory necessary to have a safe, warm, and fun time outside this winter. Last year was an especially good one for testing. Nearly four feet of snow fell over the course of our four-day alpine ski test at Utah’s Snowbird Resort. Two feet of powder piled up at our snowboard test in Crested Butte, Colorado. And, to cap it off, our week-long backcountry ski, boot, and binding test, once again held at Utah’s Powder Resort, received about a foot-and-a-half of fresh snow.
And the winners in the 8 Gear of the Year categories are…
ALPINE SKIS: Rossignol Super 7
RESORT JACKET: Helly Hansen Odin Mountain
SNOWBOARD: Rossignol Krypto Magtek
SNOWSHOES: Atlas Aspect
RUNNING SHOES: Saucony PowerGrid Cortana
BACKCOUNTY JACKET: Canada Goose Hybridge Lite
BACKPACK: Salomon Quest 30
The Outside Winter Buyer's Guide not only highlights the very best in adventure gear, from technical equipment, tools, and gadgets to footwear, outerwear, and sunglasses, but also calls out the best values in each class. This year’s issue contains over two dozen Killer Values—as well as 95 products under $150—in everything from goggles to waterproof cameras. Organized according to sport and activity, the Winter Buyer's Guide is the ultimate resource for product reviews, technology, news, and tips.
Now in its 16th year, our annual Winter Buyer’s reaches over 1.3 million frequent gear purchasers. It will be on sale throughout the upcoming Fall and Winter months. Plus, new this year, readers will also be able to purchase an enhanced Winter Buyer’s Guide iPad app from iTunes.
