Q: How is the iPad edition of Outside different from the print edition?
A: Outside+ Magazine issues include everything from the print edition, plus exclusive digital extras, including image galleries, videos, and interactive features. The app also includes special sections and issues published only on the iPad.
Q: I’m a subscriber to Outside's print edition. Do I get free access to the iPad app as part of my subscription?
A: Yes. Current Outside print subscribers can access the Outside+ iPad edition. First, make sure you're updated to the latest version of the app. Then, after launching the app, tap the "Print Subscribers" button on the bottom of the screen and complete the login form. The iPad editions of issues will now be available for download.
Q: I’m a subscriber to Outside’s print edition. How do I locate my account number?
You can find your unique subscriber account number on the shipping label of any issue of Outside. If you do not have your account number, you may login with the same email address and zip code you provided us when purchasing your subscription. If you need assistance acquiring your account number, please contact the customer care center at (800) 678-1131 or by emailing OUMcustserv@cdsfulfillment.com.
Q: I'm an Outside magazine print subscriber but am getting a "Sorry, your account cannot be located" message when I try to log-in. How can I verify my print subscription?
A: It can take up to 48 hours for a new print subscription to load into our system once it arrives at our processing center. Once your data has entered the system, you will be able to access your subscription. If you are still having difficulty, you can verify the status of your subscription by calling our print magazine customer care center at (800) 678-1131 or emailing OUMcustserv@cdsfulfillment.com.
Q: Can I use my print subscription to access other digital versions of Outside (through Zinio, Nook, Kindle, or Google Play)?
A: Not at this time, but please stay tuned for more information.
Q: Can I subscribe to just the iPad app?
A: Yes. An annual subscription costs $23.99 and entitles you to download every issue for the next year, starting with the most recent issue. Subscriptions can be purchased in the in-app store. Launch the app, tap the “Issues” button on the bottom of the screen, then look for the “Subscribe” button next to the current featured issue. If you enable push notifications for the app, we will let you know when new issues become available.
Q: How do I purchase issues within the app?
A: After launching the app, tap the screen to bring up the bottom navigation bar. Tap the “Issues” button, tap the issue you want to buy, and confirm your purchase. The issue will appear on the Issues page, where you can tap the “Download” button below the cover.
Q: Can I replace my print subscription with the iPad app?
A: Not at this time. The app is set up to recognize print subscribers to access issues but we are currently unable to take a subscription off of one database and place it on the other.
Q: How do I access issues now that I have subscribed to the iPad app?
A: Each new issue should automatically appear on the Issues page, which you can access by tapping the screen to bring up the bottom navigation bar and tapping the Issues button.
Q: I don't see the issues I've previously purchased.
A: If the issues you've purchased are not available for download, first make sure you're on the same iTunes account you originally purchased the issues with. If so, on the Issues page, tap the flywheel button (on the right side of the screen, above the library of issues), then tap “Missing issues?” on the drop-down menu. This should reset your subscription and issues. We also suggest you update your Outside+ app to the latest version. To do this, please go to the App Store icon on your iPad’s home screen and tap the Updates button to show all available updates for your iPad. If Outside+ appears on the list, please click “Update.” Once the app is updated, perform a hard reset of your app. Reopen your app, go to the Issues page, tap the flywheel button (on the right side of the screen, above the library of issues), then tap “Missing issues?” on the drop-down menu. If that doesn't solve it, please let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: Please explain the auto renewal with iPad app subscriptions?
A: The iPad subscription you purchased through iTunes will automatically continue unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current subscription period. Your credit card will automatically be charged for another subscription period at the current subscription price. You can manage your subscriptions and turn off auto-renewal by going to your iTunes Account Settings after purchase. Subscriptions cannot be cancelled during the active subscription period.
Q: Can I access the Outside+ iPad subscription on more than one iPad?
A: Yes! You can access the same subscription on up to five iPads as long as you are signed into the same iTunes account the subscription was originally purchased with. Just download the app on your second iPad, launch it and go to the Issues page, tap the flywheel button (on the right side of the screen, above the library of issues), then tap “Missing issues?” on the drop-down menu.
