Surfer Missing in Indonesia

Long Island's Bobis last seen Sunday

Daniel Bobis, a math teacher and surf coach from Long Island, has gone missing off a remote beach on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Bobis, 32, a high school math teacher and surf coach at Long Beach High School, was surfing in the Indian Ocean with friend Brian Lonergan on Sunday morning when he disappeared. "Danny had just taken a wave before me. I couldn't see him, and a few minutes later, his board washed up on the shore," Longeran told the New York Post. Bobis, Longeran, and Bobis's wife Rachel had been traveling and surfing since June 30 on a planned six-week trip across Indonesia. Rachel Bobis has appealed to the United States consulate in Indonesia and the office of United States Senator Charles Schumer for help in the search effort. A dive team reportedly arrived at the beach, a six-hour drive from the nearest airport, late Sunday night.
