BASE Jumper Survives 876-ft Fall

Man hits water at 70mph after chute fails

A wing-suit BASE jumper fell 876 feet into Fayetteville, West Virginia's New River when his chute didn’t deploy during an annual bridge celebration on Saturday. Christopher Ryan Brewer, 27, is being treated for a broken pelvis and injuries to his spine and lungs after striking the water at between 60 and 80 miles per hour. Doctors say that he is in stable condition at the Charleston Area Medical Center. The New River Gorge Bridge Day featured 100,000 visitors and 450 BASE jumpers.
