Youth Track Official Killed by Javelin
Thrower is receiving psychological counseling
A German sports official died Monday after being struck in the throat by a javelin. The 74-year-old man was overseeing a youth meet in the city of Düsseldorf when a 15-year-old competitor threw the object. "The popular and experienced sports judge was the victim of a tragic accident while carrying out his duties on Aug. 26," the local athletics association said on its website. "All of us who were there are horrified and in shock." The young athlete is now receiving psychological counseling, and the incident is being investigated.
