Google has released analysis of activity on the Google Play Store, the company's in-house app retailer, showing that Health and Fitness was the fastest growing app category over the past year. According to Digital Trends, the most downloaded app in the category was MyFitnessPal, which allows dieters to count the calories they consume and burn.
A recent report by the market research company research2guidance found that the number of health and fitness apps available for iOS and Android devices has more than doubled in only 2.5 years, and that revenue for the apps is expected to grow from $2.4 billion in 2013 to $26 billion by the end of 2017.
Meanwhile, wearable technology has also boomed. Activity tracking brand FitBit’s sales are set to exceed 43.2 million units in 2015, according to the analysis company Canalys.
