Planning on running the Boston Marathon next year? Better check out the new registration procedures and qualifying times announced by the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) this morning.
In 2012, a rolling admission will give the fastest qualifiers priority registration. In 2013, the BAA will lower qualifying times by five minutes for men and women in all age groups. Rolling admission will still be in effect (although the approximately 500 runners who've completed the last ten consecutive Boston Marathons may register at any time).
"We feel this registration process will be met with great favor, especially by all the runners who have told us the main thing is to maintain the credibility, integrity and competitive excellence" of the race, says Race Director Dave McGillivray.
The BAA began reviewing its registration process after the 2011 Boston Marathon sold out in a record eight hours, three minutes last October.
