First Descents, a nonprofit founded by kayaker Brad Ludden to benefit young adults with cancer via outdoor adventure sports, will hold a ski-weekend fundraiser December 10 to 12 at the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch in Vail, Colorado. Events include a dinner hosted by renowned chef Wolfgang Puck, a screening of Warren Miller Entertainment's The Long Cold Walk with Chris Anthony, an auction of hand-painted skis and snowboards, a ski-a-thon, and a tel-a-thon on local TV8 with Ludden.
All programs run by First Descents are free for participants. The goal for the weekend is to raise enough money to be able to sponsor 15 people for a First Descents camp in the Vail Valley next year, says Ludden. The foundation now has nine programs in six states. For more info, check out the December issue of Outside, and go to firstdescents.org.
