Ocean rower and environmental campaigner Roz Savage halted her attempt to row across the Indian Ocean this week after experiencing problems with her desalination unit flooded. She was only 100 miles into her 4,000-mile journey from Freemantle, Australia, to Mumbai, India. Savage, no stranger to ocean rowing, crossed the Atlantic in 2005 and the Pacific in 2008—2009.
"So... as I was still only 20 miles from land, and had 4,000 miles to go, and didn’t fancy having to hand-pump water for 2 hours a day if my electrical watermaker failed, it seemed sensible to return to port to pre-emptively head off the watermaker problem," Savage posted on her blog.
She hopes to continue her journey within the coming week.
