Valhalla Hut Trip

Kootenays, B.C.

We were nearing the end of a stellar week up at Valhalla Mountain Touring in the Kootenays, BC which is owned and operated by Jasmin Caton and Evan Stevens. The lodge has been in their family for a couple generations and it is stacked with skiing in all directions. Over the course of the week 4+ feet fell giving us ideal conditions everyday. I set my camera up on a tripod and ran away from the camera in hopes of having that red glare show up instead of just the white head beam. December of 2012. (Garrett Grove)

Valhalla Mountain Touring, family-owned for multiple generations., offers access to world-class skiing in every direction and enough variety to keep clients happy for weeks. Over the course of my week-long trip, we were blessed with more than four feet of fresh snow and had nearly perfect conditions every day.

I wanted to do something different and capture the lodge at night, so I set my camera up on a tripod for long exposures. For this shot, I ran away from the camera in the hopes of capturing action and a red glare, instead of just the white head beam.
