The North Face Spectrum 23 - Tents: Reviews

Behold a world-record holder: In wind-tunnel testing, the ultralight Spectrum withstood 130-mph-plus winds, says The North Face, thanks to a new design that funnels air through the tent via a front-awning scoop. While we never found a ridge where a Katrina-level blow was brewing, we assembled the fast-pitching Spectrum above Washington's Stevens Pass and were impressed with its bunkerlike feel. Tornado shelters are always cramped, however: You get just one smallish door, and the living space—37 inches from floor to roof—is ideal only for those who don't mind spooning to save ounces. 3.6 lbs; www.thenorthface.com

Bonus: It's so light you can use it solo.

Bummer: When this wind machine is becalmed with two inside, condensation can get heavy.
