Anyone who can beat the splits of Alban Lakata, the Leadville Trail 100 course record holder, on any of the three days will automatically earn a spot in the sold-out 100-mile race. The team that puts together the fastest three-day total will also gain a spot in the big race.
The solo entry fee is $425, and the entry fee for teams is $675, according to the race website. Like the larger race, the three-day competition will start and end at the Lake County Rodeo Grounds. The first- and third-day stages will each be 42 miles. The second day, featuring the climb and descent of Columbine, will be just 16 miles.
