Swiss mountaineer Dani Arnold set the Matterhorn speed-climbing record on April 22, breaking the mark formerly held by fellow Swiss mountaineer Ueli Steck, according to a Mammut press release.
Steck set his mark of 1 hour, 56 minutes via the Schmid route in 2009. Arnold, taking the same route, completed his climb in just 1 hour, 46 minutes.
This is not the first time Arnold has bested one of Steck’s records. In 2011, Arnold’s Eiger climb in 2 hours, 28 minutes was nearly 20 minutes faster than Steck’s previous record-setting mark.
