Which Companies Guarantee Their Gear (And Really Mean It)?

No arguing, no questions. Just a rock-solid promise the gear will work or your money back.

Sometimes gear breaks or fails before it should. If that happens, you want a refund or at least a new product. Some companies will fight you, but I've listed several below that won't. They not only make some of the best outdoor products, but also have bombproof warrantees to back up everything up. Buy an item from any of them, and you should have it for life.

Eddie Bauer

Eddie Bauer has an unconditional lifetime guarantee. This policy started in 1921 when Eddie himself decided to forgo an argument and replace a customer’s tennis racket that had clearly been left out in the rain. Since then, the 95-year-old company has offered a full refund on any item if you aren’t satisfied.

Looptworks, based in Portland, Oregon, builds all of its products from leftover, up-cycled materials. So as to not have these new products then end up back in a trash heap, they come with a “Loopt4Life” guarantee, which means the company will refund any gear you're not happy with. That’s good for you and the environment.

Outdoor Research

Outdoor Research's Infinite Guarantee is another lifetime warranty. The company will replace anything that fails or doesn’t meet your expectations, no matter how long you’ve owned the product. The only caveat? You need to wash your return before sending it back.

Duluth Pack

This 133-year-old company proved it stands by its lifetime guarantee: it recently replaced a rivet for a customer who owns one of their 104-year-old packs.

Darn Tough Socks

I recently interviewed people hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and many of them said they only use Darn Tough Socks. Why? Because any shop that carries the socks will replace them, no questions asked. Two of the hikers I spoke with had just swapped their socks hours after using them for more than a thousand miles.
