The deadline to submit a bid to host the 2024 Olympics ended Tuesday, according to ESPN. Cities in the running to host the games include:
- Los Angeles
Toronto, which was in the race for the 2024 games, did not pursue a bid to host, leaving Los Angeles as the only North American bidder. In a news conference, Toronto Mayor John Tory said, “I believe that one day Toronto will be a great venue for the Olympic Games, but not in 2024,” according to CBC News.
Boston was the U.S. Olympic Committee’s top choice as host city for the 2024 Summer Games, but local opposition and budget constraints led the city to withdraw its candidacy in late July. The United States has not hosted the Olympics since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.
The International Olympic Committee will announce the host city for 2024 in 2017.
