Front End Web Developer/Designer

Outside is looking for a front end developer/designer to join its development team. The ideal candidate is passionate about designing and implementing user-first, on-brand experiences on conducive to great storytelling and audience retention. They are excited about using web design to increase user loyalty, and they focus on delivering excellent UI/UX that adheres to our brand guidelines. They design, write, review, and test code to maintain and iterate on site features, and are extremely attentive to detail to ensure that users across devices and browsers are served a consistent site experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, test, and build responsive user-first features with a commitment to usability, excellent site performance, scalability, page load, and accessibility
  • Create high-quality mockups, graphics, and visual elements; collaborate with both technical and non-technical internal stakeholders to bring designs to life on the site
  • Write clean and reusable code for features approved by the Product Director 
  • Help design and analyze A/B tests to drive user engagement
  • Must understand business goals and user needs

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess a solid foundation in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub pull-request workflows is required
  • Strong working knowledge of  a prototyping tool such as Figma, InVision, etc required as they must be used regularly
  • Excellent grasp of  UI/UX and visual design is necessary
  • Success in this role requires the ability to brainstorm ideas, do relevant research, and to remain current  with industry trends and best practices. Ability to work with limited supervision and work well under pressure are critical.
  • The ability to receive, comprehend, and deliver clear and detailed information through multiple  communication mediums including Zoom/Hangouts, Slack, ZenHub/GitHub tickets, phone, and e-mail 
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and work well under pressure, including workload peaks and  tight deadlines are critical
  • The ability and willingness to learn relevant new technologies and techniques is mandatory

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required  
  • A related two or four year college degree or equivalent education is preferred but not necessary, if the  incumbent possessed the required skills and knowledge  
  • At least two years of experience in front end development is required; direct experience in publishing is preferred

Marketing Coordinator

Outside is looking to add a member to its Santa Fe-based marketing team. The Marketing Coordinator must be extremely organized and deadline-oriented and have great communication skills and a positive attitude. Sound like you? Then read on: 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Hold the keys to the master calendar and enforce deadlines. We need someone who’s not afraid to project-manage all the stakeholders—marketing staff, clients, agencies—to make sure we hit every deadline
  • Help come up with creative, cross-platform marketing solutions and integrated branded content programs and build out client-facing proposals 
  • Create, schedule, and manage social promotions, including image selection, writing copy, and coordinating with our audience team
  • Manage all e-commerce integrations by requesting materials, writing copy, and scheduling accordingly
  • Be the main point of contact for all marketing-related client communications
  • ​Help create case studies, client-facing toolkits, and other marketing materials​
  • Assist in maintaining several schedules, including custom content calendar, social promotions, email marketing, and e-commerce 
  • Manage custom contests and sweepstakes
  • Manage all marketing-related invoices
  • Work collaboratively with marketing team members on projects and events
  • Assist with social and custom content digital reporting

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Two years' marketing, project-management, or journalism experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of G Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, and social media platforms
  • Familiarity with and passion for the outdoors
  • Ability to juggle many different projects at one time while maintaining high attention to detail

Assistant Video Producer

Outside is seeking an assistant video producer to join our video team. This producer will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the creation of short and long-form videos, as well as curating films for the site. Daily tasks will include pitching ideas, shooting, producing, and editing on deadline, as well as connecting with filmmakers to acquire videos to host on Outside. This role requires regular collaboration and communication with the online editorial team. This is a full-time job located in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Produce, shoot, and edit 2-3 short-form videos a week for Outside channels
  • Find and obtain rights to feature curated videos on the site as needed
  • Work with the editorial and video teams to create and execute a video strategy across all of Outside’s platforms
  • Produce content that demonstrates a high level of professionalism and positively projects and promotes the Outside brand 
  • Collaborate with the audience development team on innovative ways to package and distribute videos
  • Aid in media management, such as backing up footage, ingesting, and organizing new and old footage


  • Ability to work with all employees, clients, and vendors in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner 
  • Must be able to work independently, remain deadline-oriented, and excel under pressure 
  • A passion for the outdoors/outdoor gear is strongly preferred
  • Enjoys solving problems and finding process efficiencies in an innovative, creative, and dynamic environment 
  • An agile team player who will support change with enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and a commitment to personal and team development
  • One to two years of experience in video editing software required; in-depth knowledge of Premiere Pro and After Effects is highly preferred 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Google Docs required
  • One to two years of experience in video production or video journalism required; experience at a digital publisher is a plus

Culture Editor

Outside is seeking an editor to lead our online Culture section. This editor will assign and edit a wide range of stories and spearhead the growth of our culture coverage, which encompasses a variety of topics like media, food, parenting, and identity and inclusivity in the outdoors. The ideal candidate is an ambitious editor with diverse interests who is eager to expand the scope of this channel, experiment with new ideas, and recruit new writers to Outside.

  • Develop and execute a cohesive vision for our Culture coverage and act as the lead editor for the section
  • Assign and edit online stories, from short columns to reported features and packages

Outside offers paid six-month fellowships at our headquarters in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We have a few different fellowship roles—including editorial, production, and video production—all of which include working closely with top editors on everything from fact-checking long-form features to building stories and editing videos.
