Casual kicks to face down winter’s wrath.
Reef Rover Hi
Reef took its popular, summery Rover line and updated it for winter commutes. This new iteration has a waxed-leather upper that fends off light snow. (Spray it with a waterproofing treatment if you’ll be in really wet conditions.) The fleecy lining paired with a springy midsole makes it downright slipper-esque.
Sanuk Beer Runner
It’s all in the name. We loved the classic jogger look of the Beer Runner for six-pack shuffles to the corner store. A herringbone-patterned rubber sole gave enough traction, while the cotton and hemp upper kept things airy and light.
Industry of All Nations Jefe
For a shoe that means “boss” in Spanish, the Jefe was pleasantly lenient with our tired dogs after they got worked on the hill. The wool uppers were comfy even without socks, and coconut fiber in the heel stymied funk.
Sorel Madson Wingtip Boot
Half dress shoe, half cold-weather warrior, the Madson Wingtip Boot uses rubber on the outsole and a tall rand to prevent slush from soaking through to your socks. Up top, we found its smooth, waterproof leather and dapper toe cap appropriate for formal occasions.
Pikolinos Liverpool M2A-6060
The word is out: sneakers can be posh. Polished leather means the Liverpool isn’t a match for the gnarliest elements, but its slim profile and dressed-up feel had us reaching for it on nights when looks mattered.
Vault by Vans X London Undercover Sk8-Hi Trek Cup LX
This high-top is a revitalized, bomber version of one of Vans’s oldest shoes, the Sk8-Hi. Featuring Scotchgarded suede and a DWR-treated synthetic upper, it easily turned aside sleet and snow.
