Spring in New Mexico means chilly mornings and sweltering afternoons. Although it's one of my favorite times of the year, it can make layering tricky. That's where a top like the North Face Mountain Sweatshirt ($110), which I wear almost every day, comes in handy.
As you can tell from the photo, this is not your traditional cotton hoodie. The stretch-woven nylon shell looks technical but it's silky enough to wear for hours. Underneath, a thin layer of synthetic insulation provides warmth, while a peached-fleece bottom layer provides blissful next-to-skin comfort. The dropped hem makes it perfect for wearing to the office or other places you'd like a little more coverage, and I love that the cuffs are made from a stretchy compression fabric, which keeps them in place and cuts out drafts. Deep front pockets fit my iPhone 7 Plus perfectly.
My only complaint: the face fabric can be prone to snagging. But as long as you don't plan on wearing it bushwacking, this versatile midlayer won't disappoint.
