Your resolution for 2016: spend more time outside. We asked Outside readers for Instagram shots of their most memorable trips and activities in 2015—tagged #OutsideBucketList—and we weren’t disappointed. From scuba diving between continental plates and river surfing in Germany to climbing one of the highest active volcanoes in the world, the outdoor community spent the year going on epic adventures and documenting the evidence. Here are 14 of our favorites, and we highly recommend adding them to your 2016 Bucket List.

@lizzyvanpatten unwinds with some yoga during a climbing trip at Valle De Los Condores, an area in the mountains between Chile and Argentina that boasts around 200 climbing routes.

Mushing through fresh powder offers sweeping views of the Northern Lights and close contact with sled dogs, an integral part of Alaska’s history.  

Hike the Rainforests of Belize

Yoga teacher Natalie Magee hiked through lush jungle vegetation to reach an overlook above the Macal River and Black Rock Lodge. She shared the trails with snakes, toucans, and tapirs, the national animal of Belize. 

Road Trip the Lagunas Route through Southern Bolivia

The high altitude (14,800 feet of elevation) means the conditions are rugged, but the fabled Lagunas route is worth it. Popular with both cyclists and overland drivers, the route runs through the high deserts of Bolivia and is dotted with landmarks like the famous Arbol de Piedra, or Stone Tree. 

Crab Claw Sail in the Pacific Northwest

Crab claw rigs, like the one pictured here, are used in many Pacific Ocean cultures and are identified by the Isosceles shape of their sail. 

Bike Across Iowa

The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, commonly known as RAGBRAI, is the oldest and largest week-long bicycle touring event on Earth. Approaching its 43rd year, the 500-mile, 7-day ride across Iowa attracts cyclists from all over the world. 

Scuba Dive in Iceland’s Thingvellir National Park

Silfra, a submerged rift between North America and Eurasia, is one of Iceland’s best diving spots due to its incredibly clear water.

Walk the Entirety of Oahu, Hawaii

Walk the 135-miles around Oahu, Hawaii, and experience the brilliant blue beaches, the Pearl Harbor memorial, and the vibrancy of cosmopolitan Honolulu. It took these travelers seven days to circle Oahu, the third-largest Hawaiian island, on foot. 

Hike Half Dome in Yosemite National Park

The famous 15-mile Half Dome climb ascends nearly 9,000 feet above sea level. Views of Yosemite Valley and the High Sierra from the summit, as shown here, are unparalleled and expansive. 

Surf the Eisbach River in Munich, Germany

The Eisbach, a small, turbulent channel off the Isar river in the center of Munich, draws scores of experienced surfers and interested onlookers daily. Munich has become the unofficial capital of river surfing, a sport so risky that it was outlawed in the city until 2010. 

Climb the Cotopaxi Volcano in Ecuador

At almost 20,000 feet, Cotopaxi is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world. Located in Cotopaxi National Park on the border between Pichincha and Cotopaxi, the volcano is home to wolves, wild horses, and pumas. 

Cycle from Tbilisi, Georgia to Tehran, Iran

Set aside a month for this epic 700 mile ride. Over the course of the journey, you’ll pass through Azerbaijan and follow the coastline of the Caspian Sea. 

Run the Tent Ridge in Canada

One of the most beautiful ridge walks, Tent Ridge in Canmore, runs a loop through forests and over mountains. It also has unsurpassable views of the Bow River. 

Whitewater Raft in Swallow Falls State Park, Maryland


Hikers in western Maryland’s Swallow Falls State Park walk through trails of hemlock trees while adrenaline junkies take on the rapids of the Youghiogheny River and Muddy Creek Falls, a frothing 53-foot-long waterfall.
