Wellness retreats are all about treating your body and mind right. You’ll exercise, eat well, enjoy plenty of fresh air, and disconnect from your devices. Plus, you don’t have to plan a thing—all the details from lodging to meals to activities are taken care of for you. But if you’re like us, you’ll want all that relaxation and self-care to come with a side of adrenaline. That’s why we rounded up some of the best adventure-oriented retreats across North America and beyond, places where you can go skiing, surfing, or trail running after downward-facing dog.
Surf Into Yoga
At Surf Into Yoga’s camp retreat you’ll be outfitted with an overlanding rig complete with a rooftop tent and camp kitchen, and you’ll spend six nights on a remote beach on the south shore of Kauai. Perks include perfect breaks, deliveries of cold-pressed juices, healthy lunches, guided hikes, Thai massages, and private yoga sessions right on the beach. You can even add on a private chef and a personalized nutrition program if you want. From $2,200
Run Wild Retreats
This March, April, and October, Run Wild Retreats will be hosting four-day women’s trail-running and mindfulness trips at Moab’s Red Cliffs Lodge. You’ll cover up to nine miles a day, winding through the region’s famed rust red towers and sweeping stone arches on guided outings. Plus, you’ll restore your body with daily yoga sessions and learn about injury prevention, breathing practices, and stress-reduction techniques during group clinics and one-on-one instruction so you can train smarter and harder for your next race after you head home. From $1,950
In 2018, Skylonda Lodge, located an hour south of San Francisco in the town of Woodside, launched new four- and seven-day retreats that will see you spending your mornings hiking through the giant redwoods, your afternoons circuit-training on the outdoor obstacle course, and your evenings getting limber in yoga classes and massage-therapy sessions. The 16-acre property has 38 guest rooms, a communal dining area, and a 1,000-square-foot fitness center with a sauna and a saltwater pool. Your stay even includes chef-prepared meals and nutrition and wellness consultations. From $3,900
Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort
The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida, Colorado, has teamed up with Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort in nearby Nathrop to host two wellness retreats in 2019. The five-day getaways in January and March at the base of Colorado’s 14,197-foot Mount Princeton are led by medical staff, and you’ll get health interventions, group counseling, blood work, and tips on disease prevention. There’s plenty of outings and relaxation, too, like yoga, snowshoeing, cooking classes, and soaks in the resort’s steaming mineral-water baths. From $1,500
Warrensburg, New York
Live in New York City and want to escape? Let the Brampton do the legwork for you. It’ll pick you up in Manhattan, drive you deep into the Adirondacks, and plan your daily itinerary. Stay in a six-bedroom, 3,000-square-foot lodge along the Hudson River, or opt to sleep in a new tiny home, a 1970s Airstream, or a camper van with a clear roof for stargazing. Whatever you choose, you’ll have access to a hot tub, outdoor yoga deck, and fire pit, and the skiing at Gore Mountain is just 15 minutes away. Meals aren’t included, but the Brampton can arrange for a private chef if you’d like one. From $375 per night
Pacific Northwest Yoga and Rafting Retreat
On this whitewater-rafting and yoga retreat, taking place in June, you’ll spend four days paddling the Class III Lower Klamath River, camping on secluded beaches and participating in daily teacher-led yoga sessions along the river. Afterward you’ll visit Ashland for a few days at the Rogue Valley’s Lithia Springs Resort, a lodge with a day spa, saltwater pool, and private soaking tubs in each room, where you’ll enjoy wine tastings, hiking trips, and, of course, more warrior poses and side planks. From $1,300
MT Sobek Sonoran Desert Meditation and Yoga Retreat
On these five-day Sonoran Desert yoga and meditation retreats in March, April, and October, you’ll spend as much time doing flow yoga and deep-breathing exercises in the stunning desert landscapes as you will hiking through the red rocks of Sedona. But it’s not exactly roughing it. Your digs are the 70-acre Enchantment Resort at the entrance to the remote Boynton Canyon. Cap off your trip with treatments at its serene Mii Amo spa. From $3,995
