Machu Picchu Open To Tourists

More than two months ago, heavy rains stranded roughly 4,000 visitors at Peru's most well-known tourist site. Mudslides took out the main rail to the Incan ruins and the tourists had to be airlifted out (video of the rescue efforts above; photos, here). This weekend, Machu Picchu opened again

Aside from ruining vacation plans, the closing had a big impact on Peru. The Ministry of Tourism said the two-month closing cost the government approximately $185 million in revenue.
