Tracking Wildlife in Mahale and Katavi Mountain Parks
The Route: Two weeks of trekking through completely undeveloped parks, where you’ll track the world’s largest group of chimpanzees in Mahale and see herds of buffalo, elephants, and lions in Katavi.
When to go: May to October
Travel advisory: Fear of flying? These parks are so remote — Mahale is 120 miles from the nearest road and 16 hours by boat from the nearest town — that charter aircraft is the only way to get there. Flights are included in the cost.
