Outdoor retailer Evo this week announced it has acquired the Journeyman Lodge in Whistler to expand the presence of its hospitality business in British Columbia.

Hand-built by ski enthusiasts in the 1990s, the 5,000-square-foot lodge accommodates up to 24 guests and sits in the middle of the Sea-to-Sky Corridor, just 90 minutes north of Vancouver. Callaghan Country Wilderness Adventures (CCWA) co-manages the surrounding 18,000 acres with the province of B.C., maintaining its many ski, snowshoe, and hiking trails.

Evo officially took over operations of Journeyman Lodge on October 5. Christian Begin, ski industry veteran and co-founder of Bella Coola Heli Sports in B.C., will serve as the property’s general manager.

“I’m feeling quite confident that the transition from Callaghan Country over to Evo is a really good one,” said CCWA CEO Brad Sills in a statement. “It’s based on the shared values that the companies have, including respect for the communities that we live in and work in.”

This news comes alongside the announcement that Evo is taking over operations at CCWA.

“I’m personally very grateful to have this opportunity to carry the torch forward as we look to establish Journeyman as a centerpiece for the community in the Sea to Sky and beyond,” Bryce Phillips, Evo founder and CEO, said in a statement. “When I moved to Whistler in 1997, had someone told me that one day we’d be in a position to work with Brad and his team to continue their vision, I would not have believed it.”

In addition to its eight retail stores in the U.S. and Canada, Evo also offers lodging, trips, and outdoor experiences through its EvoTrip adventure travel service.

More information on the Journeyman Lodge can be found on Evo’s website.
