Robert Young Pelton
RYP is a Canadian-born American citizen who works as a journalist, author, filmmaker, and NGO consultant. He's probably best known for his reporting from various wars, and he drew from that experience to provide travel advice for tourists visiting conflict areas for his book “The World's Most Dangerous Places,” which was developed into a multi-season TV series. Basically, Pelton's a legit badass who divides his time between not only his ranches in Southern California and Afghanistan, but also whatever awful, sweaty, disease-ridden and war-torn country the State Department is telling people they shouldn't visit. He counts rebel leaders and warlords as close friends, designs hard-use knives, and fields phone calls from political reporters and the CIA while indulgently helping us make stories about adventure travel in the outdoors.
