Julia Roberts has agreed to produce a movie based on the life of George Mallory, the famed explorer who died trying to climb Everest in 1924. Shekhar Kapur is directing (via Variety). Not much else is known yet about the film, which is slated for release in 2012. Given how rich Mallory's life was, it's surprising that this is the first time Hollywood is going all out on a feature film. A new biopic, the Wildest Dream, with Conrad Anker and Leo Houlding recreating key moments of Mallory and Sandy Irvine's fateful climb, comes out this August.
