Weight Loss Alone Isn’t Enough
Losing a few pounds doesn't necessarily make you healthy, says a new study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Excercise.
The study looked looked at a control group in addition to diet-only and diet-plus-exercise groups. While both the diet-only group and the diet-plus-exercise groups lost weight, only the group that exercised showed substantial improvements in internal health indicators such as blood pressure and cardiovascular fitness.
The American College of Sports Medicine has long supported exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, and has even called on physicians to recommend exercise as part of its Exercise is Medicine program.
