Hawaii’s Hilo to Volcano Ultramarathon Begins Saturday

The 50-kilometer (31-mile) Hilo to Volcano Ultramarathon is set to begin Saturday on the Big Island of Hawaii, according to UltraRunning Online. From the bayside town of Hilo, racers will climb the Mamalahoa Highway to Cooper Center in the small town of Volcano Village, which sits at 4000 feet elevation on the flanks of the active Mauna Loa volcano.
The ultramarathon is open to individual runners and relay teams alike. Individuals start at 6:00 on Saturday morning, and relay teams start at 6:30. Big Island Road Runners hosts the annual race and is looking for runners of all abilities and ages to join.
Also this weekend is the Long Haul 100 Ultra Marathon in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
