Czech rock climber Adam Ondra addressed rumors of a potential one-day climbing* attempt on Yosemite’s Dawn Wall in an interview with Gripped magazine earlier this week.

Ondra, the 22-year-old world champion in both bouldering and lead climbing, has been rumored to be planning a 24-hour ascent of the 3,000-foot wall. Climbers have been murmuring for years about the possibility of Ondra taking on the Dawn Wall, and the world champion told Rock and Ice last month that he’s got his eye on the route.

In January, Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson completed the first free climb of the route. Their record-breaking climb took 19 days.

When pressed about his plan, Ondra said it was a long-term goal, but that he would like to start preparing. “I think next year I’ll start getting used to climbing in Yosemite,” he told Gripped. “Then maybe come back in two years, or three years? Let’s see.”

*An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Ondra was considering a free solo attempt of the Dawn Wall.
