Park rangers are finding measurablespikes in groundwater bacteria as a result of human waste near popular hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park, according to backcountry.com. Thesolution? Handing out free poop bags at the trailhead and asking people to pack it out. The good news is that it’s been largely successful. The bad news isthat people are now tossing excrement-filled plastic bags all over theplace. We're just wondering if this campaign may warrant a new mascot in the tradition of Smokey the Bear and the “Give a hoot, don't pollute” Woodsy Owl. Any ideas, faithful blog readers?
