In an 88-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler banned personal watercraft (i.e. Jet Skis) from Gulf Islands National Seashore and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, according to NationalParksTraveler.com. Motorized recreation in U.S. national parks long has been acontroversial topic—most recently concerning snowmobiles in Yellowstone—with groups that back snowmobiles, personalwatercraft, all-terrain and off-road vehicles maintaining they have aright to head to ride in the parks. Manyconservation groups, however, point to these uses as inappropriatebecause of their noise and pollution and the resource damage they caninflict.
