The 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Christchurch, New Zealand Tuesday morning has caused extensive damage to the country's longest glacier. The quake shook nearly 30 million tons of ice from the Tasman, a 16-mile-long glacier in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park. The glacier is about 120 miles from Christchurch, on New Zealand's South Island.

The New Zealand Herald reports that the ice, which fell into Terminal Lake, caused waves more than 11 feet high.
