In the end, the spectacle surrounding Nik Wallenda's high-wire walk over Niagara Falls forced him to change his original plans. He ended up performing the stunt while wearing a safety harness at the request of ABC. On Friday night in prime time, it took Wallenda roughly 30 minutes to walk a third of a mile across a wire dripping with water in one of the most watched border crossings in history.
After Wallenda finished, he called his grandmother.
Wallenda already has the permits to become the first man to walk a wire across the Grand Canyon, according to ABC. No word yet on whether that event will be televised and whether he will wear a safety harness, though one of those things will likely necesitate the other.
