German police officers have disrupted what they believe to be an attack on an Eschborn-to-Frankfurt professional cycling race scheduled for this Friday, according to a report from the AP. Authorities uncovered a cache of weapons, including a pipe bomb and multiple weapons,` in a raid on the home of a suspected Islamic extremist couple in the town of Oberursel.
The couple has been under investigation since April, according to the report, and officials came to believe that the couple may target the race that attracts thousands of fans on the May Day public holiday. The race has since been canceled.
