Loveland Ski Area to Open Thursday
Resort is first in Colorado to start season

Loveland Ski Area, 60 miles west of Denver, will open Thursday, making it the first resort in the state to begin the 2015–16 ski season, according to the Denver Post. A storm that hit the area last week delivered 17 inches of fresh snow. Lift 1 will be available to the public, giving skiers and snowboarders access to a mile-long run.
Loveland has opened early in the ski season in previous years. As Outside reported, it was the first North American resort to begin operations in 2009, on October 7 of that year.
Alan Henceroth, chief operating officer of the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, located 15 miles south of the Loveland Ski Area, congratulated Loveland on the season’s start in a blog post on Tuesday. He said that Arapahoe would not be far behind. “Our forecast still looks great with, perhaps, sub-freezing temperatures into Thursday,” Henceroth wrote. “Keep your fingers crossed. We will have some good news on opening soon.”
