Norwegian Swimmer Dies in Flagstaff
World champion, 26, likely had heart attack
Norway’s Alexander Dale Oen, the 2011 world champion in the 100-meter breaststroke, died on Monday in Flagstaff, Arizona, after suffering what doctors believe was a heart attack. Dale Oen, 26, was discovered by teammates after he collapsed in the shower Monday evening. He was participating in a high-altitude training camp for the London Olympics with the Norwegian swim team. Dale Oen captured Norway’s first Olympic swimming medal, a silver, at the 2008 Games in the 100m breaststroke. He won the same event at the 2011 world championships in Shanghai.
