Outside Partners with Continental Divide Trail Alliance

Outside magazine has announced a unique partnership with the Continental Divide Trail Alliance (CDTA) to raise funds to complete the Continental Divide Trail. Stretching 3,100 miles along the backbone of the United States, from Canada to Mexico, the trail will be America’s highest and greatest trekking endeavor.

“Outside inspires our readers to explore the natural, Outside world in order to live more engaged, fuller lives,” said Larry Burke, Outside‘s chairman and editor in chief. “We partnered with the CDTA as a way to promote awareness, funding, and participation in one of the most monumental trail-development efforts in our nation’s history.”
In addition to an in-kind donation of $15,000, Outside will raise both visibility and funding for the CDTA by publishing a special advertising section in its July 2005 issue, with 50 percent of the net revenue donated to the CDTA. In addition, the CDTA will sell Outside subscriptions as part of its fundraising efforts, earning $10 for every Outside subscription sold.
“Outside‘s support will create the additional momentum we need to complete the trail by 2008,” said Bruce Ward, executive director of CDTA. “With Outside‘s help, the CDTA will be able to educate millions of readers on the significance of preserving the history, scenic grandeur, and enjoyment of this natural treasure.”
Outside will also publish, in its July 2005 issue, information on how to volunteer, a pull-out map, and details about the top day hikes along the Continental Divide Trail. This is all part of Outside‘s efforts to encourage its readers to experience some of the most wild and scenic places left in the world, while conserving the environment and promoting healthy lifestyles.
This partnership was announced at an event co-hosted by Outside at the Outdoor Retail show in Salt Lake City to celebrate the Outdoor Industry’s 10 years of support for the CDTA.
