SeaWorld Ride Holds 46 Humans Captive
Park visitors and two employees were stuck for four hours
SeaWorld San Diego was in the news yesterday, but this it wasn’t for the treatment of its animals. Forty-six visitors were stuck for four hours on the Skytower, a ride that takes people 320 feet into the air for panoramic views of the park and surrounding Pacific Coast.
As CNN reports, a power failure caused the ride to come to a stop, leaving nearly four dozen guests and two park employees high and, presumably, dry.
“The guests were never in danger, and park officials were in constant communication with them while the power failure was being addressed,” a park spokesman said. “Two SeaWorld employees were also in the Skytower providing guests with water and snacks.”
Any publicity, so the adage goes, is good publicity, but when it comes to malfunctioning amusement park rides—especially those that take you 320 feet into the air—a technical malfunction is unlikely to inspire others line up for a similar experience.
