An 84-year old British man is planning to raft across the Atlantic Ocean on a vessel made of plastic gas pipes, the Telegraph reports.

Anthony Smith placed an ad in the Telegraph five years ago that said, “Fancy rafting across the Atlantic? Famous traveler requires 3 crew. Must be OAP. Serious adventurers only.” Smith received several responses. In Jan. 2011, he will lead his team 2,800 miles across the Atlantic from the Canary Islands to the Bahamas on a raft called the An-tiki.

Smith is following through on an idea he hatched in 1952. “I was a student then and I ran out of money. But the idea has always niggled me,” he told the Telegraph.

Sounds like Smith is dutifully checking off his bucket list. Here's Outside's Life List. What's on yours?
