Yosemite National Park will begin checking campers’ ID’s at the gate this summer in an attempt to curb scalping of coveted campsite permits. Fewer than 500 campsites exist in Yosemite Valley for the nearly two million expected visitors this summer. Most of those reservation-only sites were booked as early as February. Saavy scalpers have been selling their $20 permits for upwards of $120. Scalping permits is not allowed, so the park will check ID’s to ensure campers’ names match reservations. A small number of campsites in the park are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
