Sanyo has introduced the Eneloop hybrid bike to the U.S. market. It costs $2,300, weighs about 50 pounds, and has a lithium-ion battery and 250-watt motor activated by a button on the left handlebar, according to The New York Times. The motor provides about twice the power of normal pedaling.

“The average auto trip in the U.S. is five miles or less,” said Sanyo's DavidCabanban. “At the end of the day, how do you lower pollution and get people healthy? We've got to get people back to riding bikes.”
