THE SELL: A cold-weather down bag at a warm-weather price. THE TEST: We figured REI would’ve had to cut some corners to keep the cost down on this zero-degree bag. Nope. Beefy face mufflers and draft tubes sealed in body heat on a frosty open bivy at Oregon’s Smith Rock, and testers appreciated the bag’s smart touches, like the easily distinguished drawcords (one round, one flat) that let you adjust hood and neck without fumbling. The 650-fill isn’t quite as lofty as pricier stuff, but no one seemed to mind: a roomy cut and durable fabrics inspired one tester to liken the Radiant to a broken-in pair of Carhartts. THE VERDICT: A solid, dependable workhorse at a terrific price. 0º; 3.8 lbs.
