China’s Two-Lane Traffic Straddling Bus
The Shenzhen Hashi Future Parking Equipment Co., Ltd unveiled the bus at the China Beijing International High-Tech Expo in May. The bus would carry 1,200 passengers, run on a combination of solar power and grid energy, and reach a max speed of about 40 miles per hour. The developers claim it should reduce traffic congestion on main routes by 25 to 30 percent. Construction will begin at the end of the year.
So what if you're driving under it and the bus turns? Or if your van is too tall to pass through? The bus uses lasers to scan entering cars and signal an alarm if a vehicle is too large. Turning lights signal when the bus is about to turn, allowing cars to back out or turn with the bus.
