It’s no Land Rover, but this Russian 4x4 is still an off-road beast

Yes, we love the classic Land Rover. But it turns out the Russians make a great old-school 4×4, too.
Their version is called the UAZ Hunter and was famously used by Eastern Bloc militaries. In typical Soviet style, it's sparse, with few creature comforts save for power steering and a cigarette lighter. But it’s solidly built, with an all-metal body, metal bumper, and options for either a gas or diesel engine. Neither engine has much horsepower (128 horsepower for gas and 113.5 horsepower for diesel), but both make up the the lack of oomph with pretty good gas mileage (29 miles per gallon for diesel and 24.5 miles per gallon for gas).
Unfortunately, the Hunter is not available in the U.S. If you want one, you’ll need to find a foreign dealer, the nearest of whom is in Nicaragua.
