DIAD stands for “done in a day,” but even testers who didn’t speed-climb El Cap appreciated this wispy storm shell. It’s perfect for windy summits and surprise squalls—and so light we never debated packing it. Designing a seven-ounce jacket requires cutting a few corners, which in this case means just one chest pocket and pit zips that are too short to provide much airflow (a drawback on longer runs, when the house-brand fabric got a little clammy). 7 oz; www.thenorthface.com
Bonus: The trim cut doesn’t leave fabric flapping in the breeze.
Bummer: Why no stuffsack?
