I’ve always been skeptical of climbing-specific bras. One of my many running, yoga, or general sports bras usually gets the job done. Then I tried The North Face’s Beyond the Wall bra ($75). Now I’m hesitant to climb in anything else.
Its most notable feature is the high-cut neck. Deep Vs and low scoops mean high exposure when you’re bending over to flake out the rope, reaching for the next hold, or belaying your partner climbing above you. But this bra’s medium scoop neck comes up high enough to block cleavage from any angle. It feels modest without being restrictive, and the cut and colors are subtle and stylish, so I don’t mind if the fabric peeks out over the top of a lower-cut tank.
The thick straps that crisscross in the back provide plenty of support and comfort for bouldering and sport climbing and even on multipitch routes. And the poly-spandex blend dries fast after you work up a sweat.
These days, I throw in a load of laundry long before I’m out of undies or socks just so I can wear my Beyond the Wall to the crag the next day. So, yeah, call me a climbing bra convert.
