Outside’s 2011 Buyer’s Guide Gear of the Year awards
Outside magazine has chosen its Spring/Summer 2011 winners of the Gear of the Year awards, featured in the Outside Spring/Summer Buyer’s Guide, on newsstands April 26th.
Outside's Buyer's Guide has 325 of our favorite products. Our testers and editors spent several months torture-testing the latest crop of sleeping bags, tents, shells, trail shoes, and packs in more than a dozen states. As always, the products in this year’s guide represent only the best-performing gear available. Our Pennsylvania-based hiking shoe and boot tester initially called in 63 shoe models (108 pairs). In the end, only nine made the final cut. Down south, in Tucson, Arizona, we conducted our largest bike test to date, starting with an initial crop of 58 mountain and road bikes.
And the winners in the 14 Gear of the Year categories are…

This year’s issue contains over two dozen Killer Values—as well as 125 products under $100—and covers everything from mountain-bike jerseys to waterproof camcorders. Organized according to sport and activity, the Spring/Summer Buyer's Guide is the ultimate resource for product reviews, technology, news, and tips.
Now in its 16th year, our annual Spring/Summer Buyer’s will be on newsstands all summer, from April 26th to September 27th. Plus, new this year, check out the enhanced Spring/Summer Buyer’s Guide iPad app.
