Good for Technical Trails
If the other shoes here are sedans, the Velocity is an SUV. A plastic spine in the midsole stiffens this powerful shoe and does an extraordinary job of correcting off-camber footstrikes. Testers appreciated the aggressive tread in muck, and rocks and roots were no match for the hardy toe bumper. The Velocity was a bit heavy and stiff for our nimblest testers, but everyone appreciated its stability on loose, rocky terrain. The Gore-Tex XCR membrane helps retain heat in cold weather, though it may feel too steamy come summer. 15.8 oz; vasque.com
