Krochet Kids Acrylic Beanies

We’re not saying that starting your own nonprofit, teaching a bunch of women in northern Uganda how to crochet, and then actually selling the hats is going to be easy. But the fact that the founders of Krochet Kids—three guys from Spokane, Washington, with little more than some balls of yarn, a ton of verve, and their high school diplomas—pulled off that feat should inspire you to at least try. Every day, approximately 120 Ugandan women gather to knit Krochet’s array of colorful acrylic beanies (from $34; krochetkids.org). Even more impressive, this past September the trio used Kickstarter (kickstarter
.com) to raise enough money to launch a similar project in Peru.

Not only do POC’s Iris Bug goggles ($90; pocsports.com) sport some of the sharpest lenses around; they’re also extremely well made. And they’re available in a rainbow of other colors, too.

You don’t have to be a snowboarder to appreciate Brain Farm’s new flick The Art of Flight—the camerawork is enough to blow anyone away. The collector’s edition also includes a photo-heavy book documenting the two years it took the company and its star, Travis Rice, to shoot the film.
