Generate Electricity with Your iPhone?
Not exactly. But your iPhone can get you halfway there. Mariah Power, which creates residential wind turbines, has teamed up with the software developer Create with Context for an app that will measure wind speed, The New York Times reports. Just raise your phone skyward, and it will pick up the wind via its microphone. You should get a reading of how much electricity the wind could generate and what that could power, and for how long, via a wind turbine. For instance, you could juice up your fridge for an entire year with a 12 mph wind, according to CNET.
